A review of early severe weather applications of high‐resolution regional reanalysis in Australia

High-resolution regional reanalysis datasets have the potential to provide valuable guidance emergency management agencies, highlighting areas at risk of severe weather, including estimates return periods various hazardous weather phenomena. The BARRA for Australia comprises a broad region around moderately high spatial and temporal resolution (12 km/hourly), together with four subdomains (1.5 km/1 h). Here, we document applications developed management: optimal placement portable automatic stations fire monitoring; climatology low-level wind shear conducive cool-season tornadogenesis; development rainfall intensity–frequency–duration curves based on gridded data; across parameters associated thunderstorm occurrence.
